For nursing staff from abroad who want to work in Germany, successfully completing an adaptation measure is crucial. But what exactly is an adaptation measure?
First of all: The deficit notice
As part of your recognition, the responsible body decides whether your training or studies are equivalent to those in Germany. In most cases, deficits are identified. Don't worry: This doesn't mean that your training is worse, but that the focus is simply different. Often one of the deficits is "basic care" . This is particularly important in Germany - in most other countries the family takes on these tasks.
Your deficit notice shows in which areas and to what extent you still need training.
What adaptation measures are there?
There are two types of adaptation measures. The knowledge test and the adaptation course. Both have their advantages and disadvantages. We would be happy to advise you in detail.
Knowledge test:
The knowledge test is practical and oral and includes at least two and a maximum of four nursing situations in which you can demonstrate your skills. Special preparation courses are available to prepare for the exam. It is possible to repeat the exam once. The length of the preparation varies between 3-6 months and depends on many factors, including personal ones.
GoodCare and your employer will support you in this.
Adaptation course:
The adaptation course is a structured training program that is specifically tailored to your needs and requirements. During this course, you will be taught the knowledge and skills you lack in order to prepare you as best as possible for your work in the German healthcare system. The course often lasts around 24 months and takes place several times a week. On the other days, you can work for your employer as normal. It ends with a technical interview.
Which measure is right for me?
Most nurses choose the knowledge test because it can be completed more quickly. Which adaptation measure is best for you depends on many factors. These include where you work, whether it is a clinic or a nursing home, whether you work in a rural area or a big city, as well as your previous language level and your familiarity with the German way of working.
